Mimimi-free baby shower ideas

My busiest week is coming – I’m planning my first baby shower! On one hand, it’s very exciting because I really can’t wait to see all my friends and share my excitement with them, but on the other hand, I realize that there will be a lot of guests and there are only 6 days left to complete all the preparations.
The point is I’m not fond of traditional baby showers that are 100% dedicated to the baby. Baby will get all the attention pretty soon anyways, but now I want to spend some quality time with my girls. Besides, most of them have no kids and they probably don’t feel like talking about diapers all night long. So, I want the party to be fun for everyone but still have the hint of “babiness” if you know what I mean. Here are some of my ideas.
Food
Back those days, long before I got married and was a single lady, we loved BBQ parties with beer and hip-hop sound. Gone are the days when we could get loaded and go to the club, but we can still make some good old BBQ and nachos. I don’t want it to be pompous you know, so that’s my menu:
Whisky Grilled Baby Back Ribs
Obviously, I’m not gonna drink beer and some of my friends won’t drink as well, so I bought some Corona and Ginger Ale and alcohol-free Mojitos:
Virgin Mojitos
But still, we’re girls, and girls love sweets. To be honest, I hate traditional cupcakes because those awful loads of icing on each cupcake are just inedible. I decided to make some cake balls – they are still delicious and pretty festive but they come without a pound of icing on each.

Contests
I was never good in contests so I decided not to reinvent the wheel and trust it to professionals… particularly, I just went to Pinterest and picked some ideas:

I especially love the last idea because I really want to keep some memories about this day. Obviously, I’m gonna customize some activities to make them actually appropriate for the company, but with my laziness and procrastination, we’ll probably end up playing beer pong

I seriously don’t understand how do all those moms-to-be manage to organize their baby showers and fulfill all those fancy ideas. I love so many things but I know I won’t be able to complete all these on time…
Now, when I’m writing this post, I’m almost having a panic attack because I realize how much should be done… Anyways, I’m not gonna invite strangers to my party, and my girls will totally understand a little bit of poor organization. C’mon, we’ve been together since our college years and the party (even its worst variant) wouldn’t be as messy as our dorm back those days
